Within the last few years the video game industry has seen some significant changes. Independent game developers have become a force for large game studios to reckoned with. “Super Meat Boy,” created by Team Meat’s Edmund McMillen and Tommy Refenes, and “Minecraft,” created by Markus “Notch” Persson, have become prime examples of successful Indie games by selling well over a million copies each.
Looking through 2013 “most anticipated” game lists, it seems like a rather disappointing catalogue of releases from larger developers. However, the list for Indie games set to release this year seems to go on and on. Among the large list, there are a couple of standout titles.
“Axiom Verge” is expected between July and September of this year. The game is a side-scrolling action-adventure that screams retro-Nintendo. The game resembles an NES mash up between “Castlevania,” “Metroid,” and “Contra.” However, the developers…
